9 Month Check-up

Today Brody Luke turned 9 months old and he also had his 9 month check up with Dr. Hudson. I thought for sure he was getting shots today so I was happy to know he oly had to have a finger prick. He weighed right at 20 lbs and I am not sure how long he is or his head circumfrance because they forgot to do it and I forgot to ask. He had his finger pricked to check his iron... we found out it was a little on the low side. The finger prick didn't bother him at all and he loved the band-aid on his finger. The Dr said it was where I am nursing that sometimes it is low or it could be because Brody HATES meat babyfood. I am going to try to push it more but he just doesn't like it. It wasn't dangerously low or anything so he gave me some medicine to try him on. We also decided it would be best for Brody to have a flu shot as well ( so he did end up getting one shot). He did so good though!! He had a good check up and other than a little low iron he is one healthy baby boy!!

I think it is so funny to see Brody in his car seat now compared to when he was sooo tiny. He needs a big boy car seat he has 2 more pounds to go but I have been looking.. I just can't make my mind up! Oh and Ilove how he "holds" on now.

It was chilly this morning.. so Brody had to wear his new hat we got him this weekend!

At the Dr's office after they pricked his finger... he was so fascinated by the Band-aid and it didn't stay on long, trust me.
See what I mean.. it came off in his mouth...

So cute. The last time Landon got his finger pricked at the doctor. He tried to eat his bandaid too.

He's precious, I'm so glad that all went well at the doctors office.
Its funny for me to see your Brody in his carseat too because thats the same carseat we have for Cooper and he is soooo tiny in his. I'm glad to see that one day my boy will fit nicely in his like yours does.
Way to go on being a big boy when getting your shots Brody. Good boy.

Hey Lea,
Brody is a handsome little man! At 9 months, I would say he's probably ready to start trying out finger foods. Honestly by 9 months we had only tried a few things, and then I've really amped it up the last few weeks because Kaiser L-O-V-E-S it and seems to prefer being able to feed himself. So we started out with really soft things: bananas, then avocado, then really ripe cantaloupe and nectarines. Yes, at first I was nervous about him choking. You just have to watch him really closely and make sure that everything is in small enough pieces (and nothing round, my doctor said that's a choking hazard) and is soft. After he did well with those, I wanted to try some protein, so I tried scrambling an egg yolk (just the yolk, NOT the white) with a little bit of breastmilk and sticking it in the microwave for about 30 seconds or so. Kaiser was in heaven! Grains-wise, I started with a whole grain waffle, then some whole wheat pasta (rotini and penne, cut into halves or thirds), and some whole wheat toast. I also started steaming fruits and veggies and chopping them up - asparagus, zucchini (first I cut the skin off, now I leave it on), peas (I squished down so they weren't round), apple (peeled). Just recently we've also added tomato, kiwi, and green beans to the mix. Oh and he also ADORES beans-black and pinto. I feed him canned and make sure to rinse them before I do. What am I forgetting? Oh he likes shredded cheese. Didn't get a ton of it in his mouth at first, but is better now; I also add a little of it into his eggs. And then of course chicken last night, and I'll probably give him some ground beef in the next couple of days.
Sorry about the novel; I didn't know how much detail you wanted! I've honestly just kind of been winging it, but have had fun trying new things with him, and fortunately he seems to like most everything! There are times now were if I start his meal with finger foods, and then try to feed him something pureed, he pulls back and cries, like he's saying, "I'm a BIG BOY! I don't want BABY food!" Ha!
Good luck, and if you have any more questions holler!
