I first bought Brody a potty when he turned 18 months old, that was when he seemed to be interested in the big potty, and letting me know he had went pee pee. He hated it, absolutely screamed and wanted nothing to do with it. Except to sit on it backwards, and play with it as if it were a toy.
Fast forward a few months and I bought him a different potty, thinking that may help. Nope, sure didn't hated it too! So fast forward to now.... Brody is 26 months old and he is very aware of when he goes to the bathroom. I don't want to rush him into potty training because then I know it can be much harder, but I do want to give it a good try, just in case he may be ready. Only problem is... I have NO IDEA where to being or how to start potty training!! So PLEASE Please give me some tips and tricks! How did you start training with your child, what method worked best, please give me some advice!!

no advice from experience, but we are fixing to do the 3 day potty training method...we will see! I am so ready to be diaper free! You might want to check it out online!

Girl I am in the same position as you. Landon will usually go if I put him on the potty but he gets so busy and will not tell me he has to go. So I will be watching this post for some tips as well. Landon has that exact same potty too.
Try giving him a book to read while he is sittin on the potty. Or make a reward chart with stickers and let him help. Good luck!

Ok, I have potty trained 3 of my 4 boys so I guess I'll jump in and not give advice, but just tell you what I've learned from my own personal experiences.
The first two I potty trained at around 2 1/2 years old. I found that the only way I could REALLY get them trained was to switch them right into real underpants which was pretty messy. But with diapers, they didn't "feel" when they were going so I had to just deal with the messes. They both learned to pee in the potty within a week or so. I never slept them in pull-ups, either. I would just make the decision to train them and then refuse to buy another diaper for them. (a tough decision for me to make!)
My oldest son had a REAL issue with going #2 in the potty and we honestly struggled with that until he was around 5. Not that he would go in his pants, but that he would withhold for DAYS because he had a fear of the potty. Is it because we trained him before he was "ready?" I don't know, but I just know that whole thing SUCKED!
On to #3, who just got trained about a month after he turned 3. What a BREEZE! I think I had him pretty much trained within 2 days. I put him in regular underpants and when he would have an accident, I would take him in to the potty and show him that that's where he should go. We also took him in there about every 15 minutes until he would go. I only had to get him to pee on the potty one time and he "got it" right away. He did just as well with #2. I understand, now, what people mean by the child being "ready." I had tried earlier with #3 with no success.
Anyway, don't stress too much about it. With #4, I'm gonna try every couple of months between 2-3 years old and when he gets it, he'll get it. Good luck!
Oh, one more thing. I love, love, LOVE the cheapo $4 potty I got at IKEA. It's GREAT for boys because the guard on the front is all one piece, rather than removable. My old potty had one you could remove (if you had a girl) and my kids always wanted to play with it and take it off. GROSS!

Oh girl! If I could write a book about this! haha. I just went through this in the fall with my little guy. I bought Wyatt a potty when he was 2...... HUGE mistake! He wanted NOTHING to do with it. I had always heard that boys usually don't "get it" until around 3. So, I decided October 1, 2010 was NO MORE DIAPER DAY around our house!! Wyatt was 2 years 10 months. I NEVER put a pull-up on him (not even for bed). I had him go to the potty with his Daddy to watch a few times. Then, I told him that he could go pee pee in the potty and make bubbles!! That was so cool for him! After a couple of days of accidents........ HALLELUJAH, he got it!! I believe constantly asking him if he needed to go to the potty really worked. That way, he never forgot that he wasn't wearing diapers. I changed sheets maybe 3 nights and he hasn't had a night time accident since! It really clicked this time. I think you have to be in tune with your child though. Not all kids are ready at the same time, that's for sure. #2 went pretty easily too at first, then he started holding it. That was a difficult time. His doc recommended giving him a small amount of miralax in his sippy to get things "moving". We battled that for about a month and he finally realized that it didn't hurt. We made a HUGE deal out of it every time he went. Clapping, candy, the whole nine yards! It has been one of the easiest things I've ever done. I was so scared of potty training, but when the child is ready, it really isn't anything to fear! Best of luck to you. Don't stress about it!
If he thought the big potty was a big deal, you could try fining the little snap on seats to fit over it. They used to have them when my daughter was younger.
Good luck with it. My sister is trying to potty train my nephew too--i think boys are generally just harder.
